What is the Meaning of an Unsung Hero?
- A person's good deeds or abilities that have gone unrecognized or haven't received adequate praise.
- A person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution.
- A person who helped or did great acts for the betterment of his / her friends, employer, fellow employees, or any other group of people yet received little to no recognition.
2017 CBS UNSUNG HERO AWARD WINNER
Kurt was dealt a serious blow when he unexpectedly lost two seasoned underwriters in the 1st quarter. Kurt could have complained, but he rolled up his sleeves and decided he wasn’t going to let the losses impact CBS; Kurt’s work ethic and positive attitude never wavered.
The term “Unsung Hero” originates from the fact that people sometimes write songs to honor people of special significance. This was particularly common when the oral tradition was strong and people could not read or write. If a person is unsung, it means he / she hasn't received his / her deserved honor yet. Below are the individuals who received the CBS Unsung Hero Award nominations this year.
Assistant Vice President
Laura Bray goes above and beyond her job to assist whoever needs help. She is very busy but she will find the time to take care of whatever comes her way. I also notice everything else she does around here; making appropriate calls to address computer issues, maintenance problems, new-hire onboarding, lunch orders for special occasions, clean-up in the kitchen, etc. We’re lucky to have her.
Kathy is just an all-around sweet person. She comes to work each day with a smile on her face. Kathy takes pride in her job and puts her best effort forward in all that she does. Kathy is a great team player, she is always ready and willing to stop what she is doing and help her co-workers in any way that she can.
Joanna has been a tremendous help to the team by owning the construction loans and the funding process. Joanna always represents CBS with professionalism and works diligently without complaining; always taking pride in her work.
Assistant Vice President / Paralegal
Nick often has to work with difficult personalities and complicated, if not frustrating, situations but remains professional and pleasant throughout. He is great resource for all of us and is always willing to answer questions and help in any way he can.
Drew has successfully worked out many credits and recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of his seven-year tenure with CBS. He has saved CBS’ reputation on problem SBA credits, and countless others. He does a whole lot of heavy lifting! We are fortunate to have Drew on our team.
I always notice Alec going out of his way to help fellow employees on multiple occasions. Alec is a team player and willing to do whatever is asked of him.
Paralegal II / Internal Audit
Jenny does a really good job managing an undervalued task that can be very frustrating. Jenny is always polite, professional and willing to help others.
Assistant Vice President
Candice is organized, motivated and helps others to reflect those same qualities. She has an admirable work ethic, but is also very personable. She is a friendly face to all she interacts with, she takes on difficult tasks, she helps anyone who needs it, and is committed to doing whatever it takes to make CBS a better company (through her work and her attitude).
In the short amount of time Sandy has been with CBS, she has been amazing about taking on the more tedious tasks that most people don’t want to do, and she always does it with a smile. She can be counted on to offer help to others, regardless of what she may have on her plate. She has a can do attitude and is a joy to work with; a great asset to CBS.
Business Development Administrator
Kathy has been a dream to work with over the past few years. Kathy engages her work with efficiency and a positive attitude. Her turn time is mind-boggling, and requests are always completed with accuracy. She is always pleasant and funny on the phone.
